Free outdoor film screenings to enjoy in the Bay Area this summer

Outdoor movies have become a summer tradition across the Bay Area. For those who want to enjoy some fun, alfresco flicks, here's just a sampling of possibilities.

Redwood City's summer movie experience offers a nonstop, jam-packed carousel of screenings every Thursday evening from June 8 to Aug. 31 at Courthouse Square. They will present a mix of family movies and feature films, with kids movies at 6 p.m., Bravemaker Independent Films at 8 p.m., and main features at 8:30 p.m. Redwood City is the only city in California offering surround-sound movies, alongside its Jumbotron LED Video screen. Alameda's recreation and park department will host a Starlight Movies in the Park series at various venues this summer, with each event offering a free film screening, plus games and crafts for kids, and snacks available for purchase.
